If you think you are a "skinny minny" you might be asking yourself the question "how do I gain weight and stay healthy?" If you are asking yourself "how do I gain weight"? you may be either naturally thin or thin due to illness or ill health. Either way this hub is for you.
The first thing I would recommend is to get yourself some good cookbooks that are filled with recipes for whole foods. Foods like brown rice, barley, whole wheat, kasha, fish, cheese, milk, butter, olive oil....you can take it from there. Eat your own home cooked tasty food. These foods will give you good wholesome calories that will build strong muscles and bones.
Eat three solid meals a day, and supplement with 3 quality snacks between meals. A quality snack could be some leftovers from your meal, a couple of wholesome cookies, granola bars....use your imagination. Choose calorie dense foods. Get a calorie book and get familiar with different foods and how many calories they have. Don't choose junk instead of food. Bad habits are hard to break.
Don't count calories. Once you have a feel for the high calorie foods, just mix it up and enjoy yourself. Don't make yourself crazy by trying to reach some exact calorie count.
Drink water. Water is important to keep you properly hydrated. It doesn't have any calories, but it also won't dull your appetite for food.
Work out. You must work out if you are trying to gain weight. Weight bearing exercise will develop lean muscle, will add shape to your body and increase your appetite.
Make sure that you consult with a physician to make sure that you don't have an underlying condition that could cause you to be thin. Difficulty of weight gain can be linked to a thyroid condition as well as other conditions, and should always be checked by your doctor.
Unfortunately as a nation we are all obsessed with our weight. We are either too thin, too heavy, or somewhere in between. So long as you are healthy try to enjoy life whatever weight you are.
